Duran Duran handily beat out Toto in yesterday's Smackdown, so today they meet The Police. Vote now!

In yet another Poll That Went On Too Long, it was decided that Joe should shack up with Ceilidh. It's like there's some sort of Ceilidh fan club out there or something... just plain weird, man...
Anyways, as a lame apology for the lengthy and stupid poll, I'm introducing the Avalon 80's Music Smackdown. This event will last two weeks, and each day the winner of the previous poll will meet a new retro 80's challenger. So place your votes now to see who's the champion of the best darn genre of music there is! And if you hate 80's music, then just go continue worshipping Ceilidh on your own. ;-)

Julie Miyamoto is this week's Guest Artist, providing some relief for anyone who wanted to see an end to this Ceilidh and Joe crap. ;-) Not exactly the path I would have chosen, but still...

Jed R. Cruz -- the unstoppable force behind the last two Guest Artist Sundays -- has started a webcomic of his own! Go check out Yvette right now!

Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001
Thanks again to Jed R. Cruz for another awesome Guest Artist Sunday comic!
And here we go again... St. John's has a brand spankin' new official chat room! It's on IRC server irc.nightstar.net, channel #avalon. Check out this forum thread for more info on how to get to it.
And finally, The Evil Network (a rather comprehensive webcomics listing) is taking votes for your top 10 favorite webcomics, the results of which will form their new "Top 10 Favorite Online Comics" list. So try to carve your favorite webcomics down to 10, and vote!

There's the comic I managed to slip into The Charlatan (Carleton University's student newspaper) this week. Just filler, nothing important plot-wise. ;-)

Monday, Jan. 15, 2001
Whoops, I lied... there are 20 new images in the Art section today! Thanks to all the people crazy enough to submit their fan art! :-)

Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001
Big thanks to Jed for this very cool Sunday Guest strip! And be sure to drop by tomorrow, when I add 17 new pieces of fanart to the Art section!

Friday, Jan. 12, 2001
    BOO-YAH! Today's strip is Avalon's 300th! Dagnabbit, this thing's getting old. :-)
Here's something that should interest all you starving artists (or authors)... Ennui is the guy who operates an independent art community on the web, which hosts artists free of charge. For more info, check out his posting in the forum.
And just so no one can say I didn't remember: happy anniversary, Cynthia! ;-)

If you're new to Avalon (and got sucked in by the Keenspot Newsbox), thanks for dropping by! If you're not already put off by the comic, then I recommend you poke through the archive... you can start from the very beginning (for the full story), or you could start from the beginning of this school year, or maybe even just start with the New Year's storyline (but that one requires a bit of past knowledge). You could also check out the Archive page (newly updated, by the way!) for brief summaries of what's happened so far. Confused by all the characters? Then make sure to see the Cast page (located in the About section). And finally, if you feel like discussing Avalon, then go visit the Avalon Forum... trust me, the regulars are friendly. :-)
And I just realized this yesterday... tomorrow will mark Avalon's 300th strip! 300th Strip Gala, anyone? ;-)
And I finally changed the bloody poll... thanks to everyone in the forum who gave me their suggestions. The final results of the last poll shows that 75% of people fear walking into an exam to discover that you could have brought a crib sheet, as opposed to the 25% who think it's worse to prepare the perfect crib sheet then find out it's not permitted in the exam. I'm just glad neither situation occured to me last month. :-)

Monday's comic is part of the 2nd Place prize for the 2000 Avalon NHL Playoff Pool, which went to Michael MacKenzie - aka. Sam County! Congrats Michael, and I apologize for my butchering of your likeness. ;-)
And after a mild hiatus, Common Grounds is back in action! And Corey Marie Kitley was generous enough to fix all the Netscape errors in her new site layout just in time for me to announce it's return, so I promised her I'd link to it big time. So... GO READ COMMON GROUNDS NOW, DAMMIT!! ;-)

Monday, Jan. 8, 2001
Damonk's at it again... check out Yesterday's Framed! for some hot cameo action! And then feel free to bash the Toronto Maple Leafs in the CG whiteboard! (Which doesn't work in Netscape anymore, by the way... grumble)
Oh yeah, I'm in desperate need of a new poll. Feel free to leave any poll ideas in the forum. Thanks!

I would like to blame Ukrainians everywhere for making me late with this comic. :-) Last night I was just too danged tired to get anything finished, and then today my family celbrated Ukrainian Christmas - thereby preventing me from getting anything done like I said I would. And even though I wasn't able to throw boiled oats at the ceiling, I did get my fill of perogies and borscht. :-) I guess I'll be catching up tomorrow (and Tuesday, if necessary).

Friday, Jan. 5, 2001
Since I'm still playing catch-up with all those missed comics, I'll be posting new ones over the weekend. So you can either remember to check back here tomorrow and Sunday, or else make sure you go back a few days in the archive when you drop by on Monday.
And there were a couple of Avalon cameos while I was away! First was an appearance by Mrs. Page in Lazy's Walkabout. And then, the awesome power of Nick Yu brought about a Ceilidh sighting in The Bad Boys of Computer Science (you can see the specific strip here). Thanks both to Lazy and Nick, and apologies for not being able to mention anything sooner. :-)

Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001
Well, I'm back from my Christmas vacation... I really enjoyed the time off of... well, everything. :-) And I love flying, which I got a lot of. In fact, my luggage is still in the air somewhere. With any luck I'll have a wardrobe again tomorrow.
Aaaaaaaanyways, yeah, I screwed up last week... I said there were comics for the entire week, but actually there were only comics for the first three days. I had written that news item before realizing I had only enough time to finish up the first three comic strips and pack for my trip. So anyways, today you get the remaining two comics which just weren't finished in time. I apologize profusely for those not being there sooner.
Meanwhile, I am now three days behind. I fully intend to be caught up by Monday (since I fully intend for next week to be a memorable one). And I've been meaning to do a special New Year's comic like I did last year... so expect to see that tomorrow, then two comics a day for the next few days or something. We'll see how my new term at school agrees with all this.
